Since 1963 and the Harlan (Iowa) Chamber of Commerce, I have been part of a Chamber family.
Raised and mentored by Dick Apland, the Johnny Appleseed of Chamber affinity programs, my last 37 years have been spent working with and for, at one time or another, every State Chamber of Commerce/Business Association in the country, some of them from the beginning.
I received my degree in elementary education from Drake University (Bulldogs) and earned a Professional Direct Marketer Certification from the University of Missouri-Kansas City (Kangaroos). Honors, awards and additional certificates include WSI (Water Safety Instructor) – expired, Association of State Chamber Professionals Limbo Co-Champion (2005), Most VWs Accumulated on Front Lawn (12), and Prettiest Eyes (high school sophomore).
Favorite occupations have included ski bum, wave-pool manager, heavy equipment operator, camp counselor (camp name Gandhi), basketball and cross-country coach, and short-term nanny for two of my nieces. I live in Chicago in a home with no walls that I share with Queso (Australian Shepherd/Border Collie), Watusi (Blue Heeler), Nails (cat, and that is all he cares to share), and a collection of LPs. Peace Dad.
